Why do I need to hire a skip?

As above, there are a number of reasons for you might need to hire a skip. the main reason is the simplicity of clearing rubbish for you. If you do not have Ute or trailer to bring to a transfer station, hiring a skip bin can be the simplest and most efficient way of getting rid of unwanted rubbish.

How to hire a skip

Once you’ve decided that you do want to hire a skip, the next step is to choose the right size for your needs. For household and domestic rubbish, the most common sizes for homes are 2m³ to 4m³, but there are other options available too. Once you’ve chosen the size of skip bin you need, the next step is to find a reputable company to hire from.

There are lots of companies that offer skip hire services, so it’s important to do your research before making a decision. You will no doubt compare prices to get value for money, but make sure you check on any hidden charges like excess weight, or ability to mix your rubbish into one bin, or extra charges for extended days.

Most importantly, you need to make sure who you use will dispose of your waste legally and environmentally. Ask how you dispose of your waste. At Kartaway we divert waste from Landfill and ensure we dispose of our waste correctly.

Once you have made your choice, you generally have the option to book your bin online or call up to make a booking over the phone. At Kartaway, we offer online bookings for your convenience, and the option to pay online or via phone.

What size skip do I need?

Skip bins come in a range of sizes to suit different projects. Here is a guide to help you choose the right size skip for your needs:

2m³ skips are ideal for small domestic projects such as spring cleaning or decluttering your home.

4m³ skips are perfect for larger domestic projects such as renovating your bathroom or kitchen. They can also be used for commercial applications such as office renovations or shop fit-outs.

6m³ skips are great for bigger commercial projects. They can hold a large amount of rubbish and waste, making them perfect for major renovations.

7.5m³ and above skips are typically used for major construction projects or industrial sites. If you’re not sure which size skip is right for your project, get in touch with us and we will be able to advise you on the best option for your needs.

We also offer larger bins if you need but you are best to discuss these with us so you can be sure you get what you need.

How long do I need a skip for?

You will need to think about how long you need the skip for when hiring one. Will you have all your rubbish ready before the bin arrives or will it still be a work in progress. This is because some companies charge a different rate for skips that come in a range of sizes and you will be charged by the day.

If you are unsure, it is best to overestimate the time you think you will need as you can always return the skip early if you don’t need it for as long as you thought. We’ll come and pick it up at the agreed upon time.

At Kartaway, we prefer to hire our bins for 7 Days but if you need longer let us know and in most cases we can extend your bin hire for longer for no additional charges.

Where can I put the skip?

Once you’ve chosen the right size skip, it’s important to think about where you’re going to put it. Make sure you have enough space on your property to store the skip, and that it won’t block any access routes or cause any problems for your neighbours. If you’re placing it on public land, check with your local council to see if you need a permit.

Kartaway can assist you with this. Kartaway can lodge the permit request on your behalf. Unlike the bin where we can be flexible, the permit has specific period of time so if the bin is going to be on site for longer than planned, make sure you remember to extend your permit.

Again, Kartaway can assist with this.
